In 2003 life for Debbie Humphreys changed dramatically! Bruno her beloved blue whippet was born and came to live with her in her little flat in Surrey. He also came to the Wedding Dress shop that she owned at the time to meet, greet and charm all the customers! Only 3 weeks later she met Mr Humphreys who fell in love with her and Bruno!!
Jump forward to 2008, both looking to escape the rat race and now with their rescue lurcher, Frankie, in residence, oh and a couple of wedding rings, they sold up and moved to Devon! A little shop was opened in the small market town of Totnes in the beautiful South Hams area where they sold all things British!!
With this change of pace in their lives Debbie was able to pick up the knitting needles again and start knitting jumpers for Bruno who feels the cold terribly and in Totnes it is customary to leave your shop door open, all year! This led onto a new jumper design, and with positive feedback they soon appeared on the shelves of the shop and started to fly out! Totnes had the best dressed dogs in Devon! Beds for dogs were added then collars and leads for dogs, and then the light bulb moment happened, why not sell the shop, and start up a business just selling their own dog products?
So, the shop was sold, but is still open selling all the yummy things and more that Debbie and David once sold, including a selection of Redhound for Dogs products. The website was launched to coincide with the 2010 Country Living Show in London where they were the proud winners of the coveted Editor’s Choice Award for Best in Show! oh and an excellent response from the customers, who just loved the brand and the products.
By then the range included wax dog coats, wax bags for ladies, and wax coats for ladies who want to walk out in style.
2011 was a successful year too, appearing at many shows, kitting out many more dogs in style and comfort, and being Runner Up in the prestigious Country Homes & Interiors Rural Business Awards.
2012 saw an increase in stockists nationwide selling Redhound products, there could be a shop near you!
And now…
Redhound for Dogs HQ is in an old converted barn on a beautiful working farm in the heart of the Kent countryside, having made the move back to be nearer to family in 2011. Their stockists now include Hawkshead in their flagship store in the Lake District.
You can keep in touch with them through the Redhound for Dogs official Twitter and Facebook pages and follow their progress on the blog www.redhoundfordogs.blogspot.co.uk
